2013-08-25 Safe Browsing

Today I installed HttpFox, an extension for Firefox which tells me which resources have been requested, what the responses where and so on. I noticed that I got a request for safebrowsing.clients.google.com. Hm. I checked Google Safe Browsing and wondered. I decided to deactivate it. Visit about:config and search for safebrowsingenabled and set them all to false.

What do you think—overreaction? I didn’t find it on the EFF site. I wonder why.



The first time I actually saw “google safe browsing”, I thought “what an excellent idea!” – and then I realized that the name is very misleading, and that it actually does the completely opposite thing...
