Comments on 2019-05-25 Hope and Climate

That’s way too long a read, but the gist appears to be what I was writing five months ago on Christmas day about holidays and hopes. Apologies for the shameless plug, but yeah, this. Hope is the discourse of helplessness. And even if there’s not much left that we can do to save the world, we ought to act... or else stop lying to ourselves.

Yeah, certainly at the first level, this is exactly what I see as well. Hope as the acceptance of helplessness and by extension, the reliance on miraculous salvation, of other people doing strange and wonderful things instead of doing what we can.

Interestingly, that’s also the attitude of those who keep expecting scientists to come up with miracle technologies that will allow us to keep driving our cars and over-lighting our cities at night, because what are they supposed to do, give up even an ounce of their luxuries for the survival of their children?

Well, if only they started voting green then maybe a process can get started. So that’s what I’m trying to push theses days. But I don’t it’s working. So: hopelessness achieved, check. 😭😄
